The former Mahopac High (2014 grad) and Georgetown soccer standout signed his first pro contract with the New York Red Bulls, the team announced Tuesday.
"It is an amazing feeling, a dream come true," Basuljevic told Daily Voice Tuesday night. "To achieve a childhood dream is something truly indescribable.
"I always said that when this moment came that I would make sure to thank my amazing parents who gave me every platform to succeed," he added. "They constantly believed in my vision and without them, none of this would be possible. Sharing this with them and my two brothers is the best part of this."
The Red Bulls signed Basuljevic as a 'Homegrown Player,' after three seasons at Georgetown. The midfielder earned All-Big East honors in each of his first three seasons. Basuljevic was named Big East Rookie of the Year in 2014.
“Arun is a guy that we’ve had our eye on for a long time,” said Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch. “He has excelled at every level. We’ve gotten to observe him both at Georgetown and with our U-23 team over the summer, and we feel that he is at a point in his development where it makes sense to bring him into our environment on a day-to-day basis to help him take the next step.”
Basuljevic is currently with the Red Bulls for pre-season camp in Tuscon, Arizona.
